What will you use the balcony for?
On Norwegian Encore, an inside cabin still gives you access to the public Observation Lounge and the outdoor Waterfront promenade. Norwegian Bliss also publishes an Observation Lounge and Waterfront. A balcony buys private outdoor space, not the only opportunity to watch Alaska. An oceanview cabin is another category to compare when daylight matters more than stepping outside.
Choose a balcony when the party expects to use it: a quiet early look outside, private time between ports or staying close to the cabin. Read the deck plan, obstruction description and bed arrangement for the actual cabin. Public viewing areas may be busy; a private balcony still cannot guarantee wildlife, clear weather or a particular glacier view.

Compare the cabin increment with one meaningful alternative
Get two complete quotes for the same ship, seven-night sailing, two adults and included package. As an illustration only, a $600 increase for the whole cabin is $300 per person for the trip, or $85.71 per cabin-night rounded to cents. This is not a published cruise fare. Compare that increment with the specific shore outing or Seattle night you would otherwise buy.
Check that taxes, mandatory charges and package inclusions use the same basis before subtracting the quotes. An accessible layout, usable beds or sufficient space comes first. If the lower quote cannot serve the party, its apparent saving does not answer the cabin question.

Start with the route and the day at sea
Read the selected itinerary before choosing the cabin. Port hours, scenic sailing and the days spent at sea determine when a private outside space may be useful. Two seven-day Alaska cruises can have different viewing opportunities.
The ship name does not establish a glacier visit or its duration. Confirm the exact sailing’s route and any changes in the current program, then look at the cabin category and public viewing spaces on that ship.
Put the full fare beside the room category
Use quotes for the same sailing, people and cancellation basis. Add taxes, service charges and other required costs, then identify drinks, dining, excursions or transfers that remain separate. A bundled fare and a cruise-only fare cannot be compared by the cabin headline alone.
Keep the airport and pre-cruise hotel costs in the whole-trip comparison. Paying more for a balcony may be reasonable, but not if it leaves the arrival plan fragile or removes an activity that matters more to the group.
Location and access may matter more
Look at the actual deck plan, distance to the spaces you use and the selected cabin’s details. Do not infer personal motion comfort or access suitability from a generic category name. The line should confirm any room features or assistance requirements.
For a family, beds and occupancy can decide the available category before the balcony question begins. For friends, compare separate rooms with a shared category. A similar headline fare can hide a very different sleeping arrangement.

Norwegian Encore — Alaska
Norwegian Encore’s published 2027 Alaska program returns to Seattle. It keeps the arrival and departure airport together; the glacier visit and port hours still need to match the selected sailing.
Choose it for: A Seattle-return Alaska plan when returning to the same airport simplifies the trip.
The tradeoff: Read the selected sailing’s glacier day, port hours and package inclusions; the ship name alone does not define the itinerary.

Norwegian Bliss — Alaska
Norwegian Bliss offers the Saturday-departure version of the published seven-day Seattle Alaska program. Compare the entire trip with Encore: a different sailing day also changes the hotel and flight combination.
Choose it for: Another Seattle-return option to compare by actual port time and complete cabin quote.
The tradeoff: A different departure day changes flights and hotel nights; compare those costs with the cruise fare.
