Which town supports your Saturday?
Gatlinburg suits a stay with town time and the north-side park approach, subject to the exact hotel and road. Pigeon Forge suits a Parkway attraction or a Dollywood day, with a different driving routine. A cabin marketed under either name can sit away from the center on a steep local road; the address is more useful than the brand of gateway.
If the main day is Cades Cove, compare Townsend rather than forcing either town to be the answer. If it is the Cherokee and Oconaluftee side, compare that gateway. The park is large enough that the requested outing can outweigh the town’s shopping or restaurant preference.

Choose the base that removes the repeated journey
A Gatlinburg-centered three-night plan can use an arrival evening in town, one park day and one local or shorter outdoor day. A Pigeon Forge plan can use a full attraction day and a separate park or quieter town interval. Combining both is possible, but do not assume they provide identical walking, parking and traffic experiences.
Compare the complete hotel or cabin quote, beds and actual route to the priority. A cheaper room farther from every outing may consume the saving in parking and driving. Use the cabin only if its access and amenities support the evenings you will actually spend there.

Walking changes the evening
Central Gatlinburg can support dinner and attractions on foot. Pigeon Forge is spread along a longer corridor, so check trolley stops, road crossings and the distance between your actual destinations.
A walkable hotel can let different members of the group make separate plans. A cabin offers space but may require a shared car journey for every outing.
Compare cabins as a separate product
Read the access instructions, driveway grade, number of parking spaces and winter terms. Count real beds and bathrooms instead of relying on the maximum occupancy headline.
A hot tub, view or games room is valuable if you will spend time at the property. If every day is booked elsewhere, the location may deserve more weight.
Keep the park rules separate
The Smokies parking tag does not reserve a parking space, and a town attraction pass does not solve park access. Check current road conditions and choose one park area per day.
Traveling with a dog can change the plan substantially because park trail access is limited. Confirm both accommodation permission and the specific outings.
