Allow the wait as well as the walk
Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin can anchor the geothermal day. Use the current prediction and visitor information on site, then leave time for the surrounding designated paths. A famous eruption is not a continuously operating performance that can be fitted into any ten-minute gap.
Grand Prismatic and other basin visits need their own parking and walking interval. Stay on the designated boardwalks and trails, and follow current NPS safety information. For a stroller or step-free visit, use the NPS description of the specific approach rather than the basin’s general name.

- Use the first full day for Old Faithful and a small selection of nearby basins.
- Dedicate the next day to Canyon and a route suited to your base.

Change the landscape, not just the stop name
The canyon overlooks provide another kind of Yellowstone day. Mammoth gives a northern-park geothermal and historic setting. Choose the region that fits the overnight and available road connection instead of adding both as distant extras to a long geyser day.
A guide can add explanation or a wildlife-focused route. Compare the starting location, transport, duration and participation requirements. Treat animals as an uncertain opportunity; no provider card on this site promises a sighting.
Leave a margin for the park itself
Slow traffic, a legal wildlife stop or a full parking area can change the plan. Keep one substantial outing and a flexible interval rather than another tight paid entry in a different region. The trip is more useful when the stops can expand without breaking the return.
For younger children, a shorter shared boardwalk interval may fit better than a long guided day. For a hike-led group, choose the specific trail independently from this sightseeing outline. The current road, trail and operator sources decide the final version.
